Lindy Adam the founder of the Mama Asiwome Foundation travelled to Ghana in 2007 to volunteer in a shelter for abused children, it was her second volunteer experience after selling her business and "retiring", Africa and Ghana in particular were to become a focus and since that time she has been involved in the setting up of an orphanage and two schools.

Her passion is supporting underprivileged children in their own culture and environment, to give them the opportunity of an education they would otherwise, because of poverty, be denied. In 2010 Lindy was honoured by the Paramount Chief of Hohoe in the Volta Region of Ghana and given the title Mama Asiwome Development Queen Mother of Kitikpa for her work in the community.

Today her foundation is playing a major role in supporting two projects in the Kitikpa area, the Hohoe Christian Charity School, previously an orphanage, is now a free boarding school for underprivileged and orphaned children of the local area, and the Mama Asiwome Scholarship Fund which offers full scholarships for girls, from the Kitikpa area, to attend senior high school.

Lindy spends many months of each year living in the local community in Hohoe involving herself in the day to day life of caring for the children and supervising the projects the foundation is supporting.
